Reposicionamentos exhibition

Reposicionamentos exhibition

In Reposicionamentos (Reallocations) Julie Belfer curates a collective exhibition with her emerging artists from her Acompanhamento group. There is a need for a constant redimensioning when faced with the diversity of the artworks. Despite various formats, sizes and media, the exhibition presents itself as a harmonious collection.

CURATORIAL TEXT

Here, the artworks dictate the exact position of the subject.

And the visiting-subject and the artist-subject might sometimes both occupy the same space.

This exhibition requires a constant reallocation on behalf of the visitor. Each artwork introduces a subversion of what we think of as "place". We resize ourselves every time according to each object presented here.

The artist, when immersed in his/her process, exists in a place beyond just the physical reality. He/she inhabits the same world as we do, but they also occupy the imaginary world. They are constantly open to situations that we might even see, with our eyes, as well, but not with all the senses, as they do. These instants occur in the non-physical world, in the abyss between what we understand and the yet and forever inaccessible to us, in the emptiness that is also somehow solid and takes up space. These places are all tough to endeavor as a place to live. That is where the artist resides.

Sprout

All artists here bring a certain sprouting, as far as work and career. Some works depict scenes that visually resemble slides from a microscope, while others, despite being clearly organic and living-alive-creature, are not 100% identifiable. Some artworks ring closer to home. We even recognize elements of the scenes themselves. Somehow it reminds us of something in our collective affectionate memory. But given a second take, this coziness is abruptly taken away from us. There's something odd, feeling, not visual, going on. Other times we may identify ourselves with the textures created or with the processes themselves. We might have even tried such activities back in the day. But we never realized the monumentality these simple hand gestures could reach.

All artworks displayed here ask of us that we let go of the physical places we reason and understand so that we can enter places the artist have already been to and inhabit. The possibilites in a collective exhibition are endless and with each work we sow a whole new relation. The richness and the satisfaction in a group show take us to a new unknown forest of the 5 senses where we can, if we allow ourselves to, also arise.

In order to face today's art, we need to be ready for these breaking points.
